screenshot_01Wasn’t it just a few months ago, at MacWorld in San Francisco, when Phil Schiller annouced that the App Store had hit 500 million downloads. And now they are about to double that?!! I can barely wrap my head around this. When a developer sells an app in the App Store, he gets 70% of the purchase price, and Apple gets 30%. So, let’s say an app or game, that costs $.99, gets a million downloads. That works out to about $297,000 for Apple. From just 1 app!! Needless to say, the App Store has been terrific for us and Apple.

screenshot_02With the 1 billionth download on the horizon, Apple has started up a contest. Anytime you download something from the App Store, you are entered into a contest to win a fully loaded MacBook Pro, a 32GB iPod Touch, a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card, and a Time Capsule. You can enter up to 25 times a day, with the contest ending as soon as the 1 billionth download is complete.

Good luck, everyone!
