screenshot_01Finally, the Need for Speed franchise comes to the iPhone! This game was originally previewed way back when we got our first look at iPhone firmware 2.0. It was slated for release last November, but Electronic Arts decided to delay it. Let me tell you, it was definitely worth the wait.

This game has the best graphics ever, in any iPhone game to date. Detailed environments and detailed vehicles make this the most visually stunning game I have played, on my iPhone. The action is fast paced, with smooth game play. This Need for Speed, stays true the franchise, and is a great representation of the console version, keeping the live action cutscenes, that keep you involved in the storyline.

The controls are very easy. Your accelerator is always “pedal to the metal”, and you just touch anywhere on the screen to slow down. You steer by simply tilting the device left or right. You can drift corners by quickly tilting as you go into the turn. You can enter the “Speed Breaker” mode, by swiping down with one finger, and you activate NoS, by swiping up with one finger. The controls are very responsive and easy to get the hang of.

You are taken through 3 sections of the city, unlocked new races as you go. You start out with a basic vehicle, and as you win races, and win money, you can upgrade that vehicle, or buy a new one. This is pretty standard for any NFS game.

On the negative side, this game really drains your battery.  Make sure you have your charger nearby. You can feel your iPhone heat up, as the processor is working overtime to run this very graphics intense game. I would not recommend playing this game for very long, if your away from your power-source.

Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with this game and I’m giving it 4.5 Green Candies, out of 5. If you’re a fan of racing games on the iPhone, or iPod Touch, this one is a must have! Need for Speed: Undercover is available now, in the iTunes App Store, for $9.99.
