An iPhone firmware update is now available in iTunes. iPhone OS v3.0.1, apparently fixes the SMS vulnerability, that has been publicized recently. Simply connet your iPhone to your computer, open iTunes, and click “Check for Updates”. Then click “Download and Install”. iTunes will do the rest for you.

WARNING: If your iPhone is jailbroken, and/or unlocked, DO NOT UPDATE. You will lose you jailbreak and unlock, including all 3rd party apps and mods you downloaded from Cydia. If you rely on having your iPhone unlocked, and you install this upate, your iPhone will be useless to you.

It is okay to click the “Download Only” button. When our beloved iPhone Dev Team updates the jailbreaking tools (redsn0w or QuickPwn), you will be able to install the new firmware and re-jailbreak.

There is no word yet about the baseband being updated, but as far as we know, that won’t happen until 3.1.0. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I repeat: DO NOT UPDATE IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR JAILBREAK AND/OR UNLOCK.

UPDATE: It looks like the modem firmware has not changed since 3.0.0, so there’s a good chance that you will be able to unlock your iPhones with UltraSn0w, on 3.0.1, when the Dev Team releases the new jailbreak. This is just speculation, on my part, so wait for oficial word from the Dev’s, before you go and do something crazy!
